Message from Jen
Spring is well under way as we start to see more of the sun, and so we commence our “sun smarts”. A reminder to parents to ensure your child has a named sunhat to leave at the centre, and please dress your child in a t-shirt with sleeves (avoid strappy singlets). Teachers apply sunscreen to every child on sunny days.
End of term is rapidly approaching so please be aware our last day of term is Friday, 7 October, we are closed for one week with the first day back being Monday, 17 October. Also, the first week back Hawkes Bay Anniversary day is on Friday, 21 October and Labour Day is on Monday, 24 October, both days we will be closed.
We hope to see your smiling faces at our:
Parent Insight Evening: Montessori Early Literacy
7:00pm, Tuesday 4 October
Come along, bring a friend and gain insight into the Montessori Early Literacy program.
Be prepared to be amazed – literally!
All welcome - please RSVP 870 1000
Spring Fling
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Spring Fling and to all our parent help and contributions; the purpose of these events is to strengthen our community and provide opportunities for parents to meet each other in a social setting, so they are most successful when everyone chips in and helps - small or big. If you missed out do check out the photos on our
blog entry on our website.
Immunisation Charts
We still have outstanding immunisation charts, please check the list on the notice board and remember to bring in your Well Child book so we can take a copy of the certificate for our records.
Emergency Text Alerts
Please see the list on the noticeboard; there are a couple of cellphone numbers yet to be added. We will keep this up until end of term.
Child Safety and Vehicles
An important notice to our community to please keep our children safe when in and around vehicles:
-
Always use an approved child restraint in a vehicle
-
Closely supervise children when in a car park
-
Educate your child on:-
-
General road safety
-
Car park safety
-
Driveway safety, and
-
Reversing vehicles
Contact Details
We take this opportunity to remind all parents to ensure that we have your most recent contact details; address, home phone, cellphone, work phone. It is most frustrating, and a safety issue, when we need to urgently contact parents but phone numbers have changed and we have not been notified.
Parent Corner
You may have noticed the display in the cloakroom that Josefina has done for parents. This is a “Planning Board” where we display randomly selected observations of the children’s learning, which represents what is generally occurring in the classroom. These observations “feed” into teacher planning to aid curriculum planning and learning opportunities. So do take five to check it out for yourself, and also remember you can provide your own feedback or “voice” in your child’s profile by filling out one the Parent Voice sheets.
Early Arrivals
We wish to remind parents that our licensed time to open each day is 8.30am. While teachers arrive by 8am each day to prepare the classroom, we cannot receive children until 8.30am. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this matter.
Flag Pole
We are excited to report we have recently purchased a flag pole which we will erect next to the chicken enclosure fence. This is a great way to extend geography in the classroom and to offer practical lessons on how to raise and lower the flag and reasons why and/or when they are flown.

A Word from Dr Montessori:

Adults look upon a child as something empty that is to be filled through their own efforts, as something inert and helpless for which they must do everything, as something lacking an inner guide and in constant need of inner direction. . . . An adult who acts in this way, even though he may be convinced that he is filled with zeal, love, and a spirit of sacrifice on behalf of his child, unconsciously suppresses the development of the child's own personality.
